We’d hate to see too many cocaine dealers lose their jobs.
Eating my words.
I’m writing an article about DOING things. It seems so obvious to me and the people I work with, yet there seems to be a need to express this point. If anything, I’m just trying to take some power away from quick fix solutions for musicians, because they don’t exist. The only secret is hard work, for which there’s no substitute.
But while I write the article, I feel...

Lauren Zettler's new EP →
I’ve been working a new EP with Lauren Zettler. You can pre-order it from her here. We’re in the home stretch. It’s been a very cool, laid back process. The recordings should reflect the vibe of…

Music. Tonight.
Should have would have could have posted this earlier, but never late than better. Wait, what?
My trio will be at Rose Live Music tonight! 9pm.

See you there.
Boston.
Saturday I drove to Boston with Jill and Eric to visit Steve. Steve, Eric and I have been friends since elementary school, when we all grew up in the same neighborhood. Eric and I started our first band together, and Steve played drums. Now Eric lives in NYC and Steve, who used to live down here, is now in Boston getting his PhD from Harvard.
This was the annual trip to celebrate Steve’s...

Just a heads up to some of the business people I’ve worked with out there:
All your high priority, important emails that don’t require an immediate response will numb me to any legitimate time sensitive correspondence. Then I feel like an ass when I miss something.
Besides, we’ll hit the deadline, otherwise you wouldn’t have ended up with me on the job!

Barack Obama inauguration music was not live... →
randomlunatic:
Aw, DAMMIT. From the article linked above:
Unless you were one of the fortunate few sitting within earshot of the celebrated performers, what you heard was a recording made two days earlier.
Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Itzhak Perlman, pianist Gabriella Montero and clarinettist Anthony McGill made the decision a day before Tuesday’s inauguration to use a previously recorded...

ahhh job interview
thegrasshopperunit:
so i’ve got this job interview at a marketing company… any marketing tips? interview tips?
Ask them questions. That works well in both areas.
There's no "I" in "Yes we can."
A random fact worth noting:
In Obama’s inaugural speech, the President only used the word “I” three times.
Twice in the opening:
“I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he...

If the gig isn’t going well, stop yourself and take the gloves off. Throw down the gauntlet. Tell yourself things are about to change, starting now. Take your band by surprise. Everyone else in the room will appreciate it.

The Deal.
I started using Tumblr last month and didn’t exactly know WHY. I keep a blog about being a musician elsewhere, write for a website for musicians elsewhere, and have profiles set up on nearly every social networking site for some reason. I suppose this is part of an internet land grab to make sure I put some music in every corner of the web. My Tumblr account is one more piece, but as an...

Upcoming Shows
I’ve got a show this Saturday, and since I don’t plan on doing this kind of post for every gig, I figured I’d just mention the shows happening over the next month:
