“Scrapple From The Apple” by Dexter Gordon
from Our Man In Paris

My favorite DG album, with Bud Powell on piano and Kenny Clarke on drums. For the discerning ears out there, you’re right. He plays the melody a little “wrong” at the end of the first bar, but it kind of makes it swing a little harder than Charlie Parker’s original.

Doing some cleaning and reorganizing my box sets. The Complete Jazz At The Philharmonic On Verve (1944-1949) is one of my favorites, both for content and package design.

About Cameron Mizell

I'm a freelance guitarist in Brooklyn, NY. You'll usually find me working next to the talented Lauren Zettler or fronting my own jazz/funk trio with organist Brad Whiteley and drummer Kenneth Salters.

To find out when I'm performing with these groups or others, please check the calendar on my website.

Along with playing and writing music, I'm a co-founder and author for MusicianWages.com, a website about the musician business. The website takes a pragmatic approach to the discussion about making a living as a musician.

I also blog here.
